Our goal is to provide some level of financial assistance to those students who can not afford the program tuition. As a non-credit program, Degree Plus certificates are not eligible for federal financial aid.

To apply for a scholarship, please complete the Degree Plus scholarship application.

For students taking a “Try-it” intro course, scholarship applications will be accepted after the deadline on a funds-availability basis.

Note that this is not associated with federal financial aid (FAFSA). Federal financial aid is not available for non-credit classes.

Interested students are not required to register for a certificate prior to receiving information about scholarships. Once notified of a scholarship award, students will have 14 days to register for the certificate or loose the assistance award.

Scholarship award notification timeline

We will respond to applicants within 2 weeks of submitting a scholarship application. Every effort will be made to communicate financial assistance information to students as soon as possible.

The scholarship application requires personal information (address, phone number, etc.) and responses to the following questions:

  1. Why is the Degree Plus certificate of interest to you? How does the certificate fit into your future plans? Maximum 500 words.
  2. What motivates or inspires you? Maximum 500 words.

Combining Discounts and Scholarships

There may be limitations on combining tuition discounts and scholarships.  Please call us if you have any questions about using multiple options.

  • Tuition is due for all Degree Plus certificates according to the University of Utah academic calendar.  This schedule can be found here.  For spring 2018, tuition is due on or before January 19, 2018.  Students may register without paying for the certificate however students who have not paid for their certificate, or made alternate arrangements to pay tuition with income accounting,  by the time the certificate starts will be dropped from the certificate.
  • Students registering after the University tuition due date should pay for the certificate in full at the time of registration or make immediate arrangements for deferred tuition payment with the University Income Accounting office.
  • Alternate tuition payment options available through the University can be found here. Note that there is a deadline to apply for some of these programs.
  • Deposits are not required for any certificate programs.
  • Students may cancel for a full refund according to the University of Utah drop policy. Students not canceling by University drop dates are not eligible for full or partial refunds.
  • Students who have paid for a certificate but can no longer attend may defer their registration at no cost to another certificate that starts within 12 months. This option is available to our Degree Plus students at anytime during their certificate program.  Deferments are available to postpone certificate start only once and only for programs starting again within 12 months.

Some courses may have textbooks or additional cost associated with completing the curriculum. Students are responsible for procuring these materials on their own. Instructors can assist with details of what is needed.

  • Instructional Design – there may be a limited fee for a student license for an authoring tool depending on your selection and preference.
  • Content Marketing and Management – $60 to $75 fee for license

There may be additional minimal charges and students will be notified immediately.
