Keeping Degree Plus certificates affordable and within reach for our students is extremely important to us. Degree Plus certificates are priced competitively and offer opportunities for financial assistance and installment payments.

Our goal is to provide provide some level of financial assistance to those students who can not afford the program tuition. As a non-credit program, Degree Plus certificates are not eligible for federal financial aid.

To apply for a scholarship, please complete the Degree Plus scholarship application, and submit it no later than the following deadlines:

  • Fall term deadline –  September  1st
  • Spring term deadline –  December 1st

For students taking a “Try-it” intro course, scholarship applications will be accepted after the deadline on a “funds-availability” basis.

Note that this is not associated with federal financial aid (FAFSA). Federal financial aid is not available for non-credit classes.

Interested students are not required to register for a certificate prior to receiving information about scholarships. Once notified of a scholarship award, students will have 14 days to register and pay a $200 deposit for the certificate or loose the assistance award.

Scholarship award notification timeline

We will respond to applicants within 2 weeks of submitting a scholarship application. Every effort will be made to communicate financial assistance information to students as soon as possible.

The scholarship application requires personal information (address, phone number, etc.) and responses to the following questions:

  1. Why is the Degree Plus certificate of interest to you? How does the certificate fit into your future plans? Maximum 500 words.
  2. What motivates or inspires you? Maximum 500 words.

Letters of Recommendation 

We welcome but do not require letters of recommendation.

Recommenders can send letters of reference to degreeplus@utah.edu.  Please note “Degree Plus Financial Assistance Recommendation” in the subject line.

Not sure if you’ll qualify for a scholarship? 

With a recommendation from your career or academic advisor, you’ll receive a guaranteed 15% discount. 

Ask your career or academic advisor to send us an e-mail recommending you for the program and we’ll provide you with an automatic 15% discount. E-mails just need to come from their
official .edu e-mail and include their title and contact information.

Recommendation format: formal recommendation is not needed. Just have your advisor send us a quick note with your name, e-mail and a brief note indicating they support you.

Program is open for students at any Utah university or community college.  Send e-mails to andrea.l.miller@utah.edu.

Students may apply for both scholarships and this discount program but there may be limitations to combining more than one discount offer.

Payments, Cancellations and Deferments
  • Tuition is due for all Degree Plus certificates according to the University of Utah academic calendar.  This schedule can be found here.  For fall 2017, tuition is due on or before September 1, 2017.  Students may register without paying for the certificate however students who have not paid for their certificate, or made alternate arrangements to pay tuition with income accounting,  by the time the certificate starts will be dropped from the certificate.
  • Students registering after the University tuition due date should pay for the certificate in full at the time of registration or make immediate arrangements for deferred tuition payment with the University Income Accounting office.
  • Alternate tuition payment options available through the University can be found here.
  • Deposits are not required for any certificate programs with the exception of scholarship recipients who are required to make a $200 deposit to claim their scholarship within 14 days of award notification. Students receiving a scholarship within 14 days of the program start, must pay for the certificate (or make arrangements for deferral of installment plan) immediately to accept their award.
  • Students may cancel for a full refund according to the University of Utah drop policy. Students not cancelling by University drop dates are not eligible for full or partial refunds.
  • Students who have paid for a certificate but can no longer attend may defer their registration at no cost to another certificate that starts within 12 months. This option is available to our Degree Plus students at anytime during their certificate program.  Deferments are available to postpone certificate start only once and only for programs starting again within 12 months.

Some courses may have textbooks or additional cost associated with completing the curriculum. Students are responsible for procuring these materials on their own. Instructors can assist with details of what is needed.

  • Instructional Design Fundamentals – $60 to $75  student license for Adobe Creative Cloud or similar
  • Content Marketing and Management – $60 to $75 fee for license

There may be additional minimal charges and students will be notified immediately.
